I can't tell you how many people have asked if we have a name yet chosen for Baby Sottong. Other than Baby Boondong, we never had an official name...until now! As you may know, we wanted to be sure to choose a Thai name that was unique, but simple enough so he wouldn't have to deal with the mispronunciations growing up. With that being said, we chose the name Jettrin Tai Sottong. Both his first and middle names are Thai, and despite the fact that Sottong sounds really Asian, it's German. We plan on calling him Jett and think it is very fitting for our little bundle of joy. Our only problem is that we cannot figure out the meaning. Between both of my parents and their friends, all we know is that it is a very proper, popular Thai name. Knowing our luck, it probably means something ridiculous, but regardless we'll love our lil Jett with all the love this world can offer. We hope you like it and if you don't, we honestly don't care! In all seriousness, we are excited to have this part done with so we didn't have to wait until delivery day. That probably wouldn't have been a good idea.
AWWWW!!! I love his name! I think Jett is going to appreciate having such a cool name when everyone around him has such boring names when he is older! I can't wait to see pictures of him when he's born.
ReplyDeleteSawadeekha!!! you don't know me, but this is kind of a funny story so I thought I would share! i'm a Canadian woman married to a Thai guy. we've lived in Thailand and Canada over the past 4 years and have 1 son who is 20 months old now. i'm also pregnant with our second child. we were in thailand for the 1st 6 months i was pregnant and when i had an ultrasound they told us it was a girl! upon arrival back in Cananda, another ultrasound showed it was definately a boy! so...we had to rethink names! Jettrin was one we had considered for our first son so we came up with ...yep, Jettrin Tai!! when i started google-ing the names for meanings i came up with your blog and thought it was just crazy we had come up with the same name!!!! i joined a forum to ask if anyone knew the meaning and got a reply so i thought i would let you know! This was the answer i got...
ReplyDelete"The Thai meaning is ความคิดแน่วแน่ which if you paste into thai2english.com will give you something like 'resolute in belief', 'firm in opinion' or along those lines. "
Also, from what i can find, Tai as a name means "clever", so it makes a good comination!
We are due on June 11th (but praying it's sooner lol!)....when is your little Jett due?
The best of luck to you and your new little family!!!! Chok dee na kha!!!
